Our 4x4's
Our 1982 Ford Bronco was the first one. What a tough vehicle that was. It climbed all the hills in West Virgina, Pennsylvania, and New York. We had another one after this and unfortunately we don't have any photos of either one. It was one of the first vehicles you could special order limited slip differentials in both the front and rear. Powered by 351 Windsor V8.
Our 1986 Jeep Wagoneer with a 3 inch lift and 32 inch tires was our all time favorite. It handled great, turned on a dime and had a lot of ground clearance. It only lacked in the power department --- and it could have used beefier drive train components. In later years they added the 4.0 liter inline 6 and bigger differentials. But we put 250,000 miles on it, and it still worked great, and looked nice!
Our 1990 Toyota pick-up. With a 3 inch lift and 2 inch
body lift and 33 inch Goodyear MTR's it was pretty capable off road. But boy did you need some room to turn it around. It could have used a little more hp than the 3.5 liter V6 was putting out. But it never failed to get us over or thru any place we wanted to go. It also rode a little rough; but most 4x4's do.
1986 Suzuki Samurai. Old Man Emu springs, bigger All Terrain TA tires, bigger hp engine (completely restored). Rebuilt or replaced almost everything in it. It was like having an ATV with more room. This was probably the most fun 4x4 we ever owned. They're all different, but these are just plain fun! Definately not the kind of vehicle you'd want to go too far in though. Just not built to be comfortable.
Here's our latest 4x4; and so far it's been great! It's taken us into some really remote locations in Utah, Nevada, California and Arizona. It's great on a trip and still a real bear off road. Suitcases, photo gear, supplies, extra water and food with room left over. It has lockers and limited slip rears. A special brake system to stop a spinning wheel and make the opposite one pull. It has a different intake and exhaust so a little more hp too. Fantastic so far!
